Medal of Honor The Medal
of Honor is awarded by the President,
in the name of Congress, to a person
who, while a member of the Army, distinguishes

of his or her life above and beyond
the call of duty while engaged in
action against an enemy of the United
States. The deed performed must have
been one of personal bravery or self-sacrifice
so conspicuous as to clearly distinguish
the individual above his or her comrades
and must have involved risk of life.

each recommendation for the award
of this decoration will be considered
on the standard of extraordinary merit.

Navy Cross
The Navy Cross may be awarded to any
person who, while serving with the

himself in action by extraordinary
heroism not justifying an award of
the Medal of Honor. To earn a Navy
Cross the act to be commended must
be performed in the presence of great
danger or at great personal risk and
must be performed in such a manner
as to render the individual highly
conspicuous among others of equal
grade, rate, experience, or position
of responsibility. An accumulation
of minor acts of heroism does not
justify an award of the Navy Cross.
